"How's it sound now?" my father asked, waiting for my opinion on the tuning he'd just done on our ancient upright piano.
I'd sat there patiently through the hour and a half it took, fascinated by the process and admiring my father's skill.
"Sounds good, Dad," I nodded sagely, all of six years old and not really able to tell the difference, since the piano was near perfect to begin with. As I grew older, his consistent attention to detail shaped my ability to discern a good tuning from a great one. He was the model of patience in working the piano into its fullest potential for harmony. His natural skill as a pianist and performer was an inspiration to achieve excellence in all my endeavors.
As I was taught, so I do.
Trained as a musician from age twelve and acquiring a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Music Education K-12 (Wayne State University Detroit, MI), I taught music in public schools (Michigan, then Colorado) for six years, teaching private lessons throughout.
Work as a professional musician, composer, arranger and vocal coach culminated in many original compositions, three of which were broadcast on local and out of state radio. Two CDs of original music ~ "North Shield" (Cody Alexander) and "Winds of Time" (Gwilda Wiyaka and Cody Wigle/Alexander) ~ are available on ITunes, CD Baby and Amazon.
The study of piano tuning began in 1977 and formally became a business in 1979, including the piano tuning contract for St. Vrain Valley Schools (Longmont, CO). During the six years of that contract, I flew my father out to help tune the school district's 100 pianos twice a year, a treasured opportunity to observe his expertise and patience.
The contract was grueling, satisfying, and great training for what became a 40 year profession and still going strong. My father's example as a musician and piano tuner provided a powerful reference point for achieving musical goals with joy and enthusiasm.
Since 2015, private piano and voice lessons have continued for local students in Coaldale and Salida, CO.
Piano tuning, teaching, performance ~ these are not done well unless one's heart is in it.
This is where my heart lives.
"Cody did an amazing job tuning our piano. What most impressed us was the length of time she spent on the process and the attention to tuning our piano perfectly. As my son said, 'The piano sounded fine to me, but she still kept refining the tuning of it!' Cody is also very personable and friendly; just the kind of person you would want to welcome into your home. We highly recommend her! AND her prices are VERY reasonable!

"Thank you Cody for the amazing results from your tuning my piano. The harmonics are wonderful and I've decided to use tracks from this on my new CD. Who knew my 100 year old Gulbransen upright piano could sound like a kid again? When it comes time for another checkup, you're the one I'm calling!"

"I am a three time Grammy-winning music producer based in Boulder, Colorado. Cody has tuned three different baby grand pianos for me over the last 26 years. One of these pianos appeared on a number of Grammy winning recordings. Cody is without doubt my favorite piano tuner, and now that she has moved south I certainly miss her talents. I am quite certain that you can find no better piano tuner in the state of Colorado."

Amanda says she likes the way you teach, Amanda is a perfectionist and she appreciates every time you correct her. Ashley also feels very relaxed and happy with her voice lessons! You are a professional, you have the gift to teach. I am happy to have met you..." E. Zunega, Coaldale CO
"Cody is equally talented as a musician and a teacher. She recognizes my individual needs and tailors my lessons to accommodate them. She is always encouraging and patient." Debra Alsup, Coaldale CO
